Our Filtration System

Why filtered “drinkable” water?

Our water filtration system is different from the one of our rivals. Actually, Source Omega adds a third filter to the sediment and carbon filters; the KT softener filter.

This KT softener filter is designed to retain limescale in the water, which prevents the formation of scale deposits, acting as insulation and causing the refrigeration components to work harder, making them, therefore, favourable to breakage. The refrigeration efficiency will be reduced, so there will be less cold water. Moreover, the limescale boosts the proliferation of bacteria and slips into mechanical parts, such as the tap, which, over time, no longer closes and leads the unit to constantly flow. Finally, thanks to our KT softening filter, the device and its environment remain clean and the water is softer.

Description and usefulness of our filtration system :

Sediment filter :
The sediment filter provides nominal 1 micron filtration, which retains solid particles in suspension that may come off water and plumbing pipes.

KT softener filter :
The softener filter mainly removes limescale and some metals (lead, cadmium, iron, manganese, fluorite, arsenic, sodium, nitrates and TEC-trichlorethylene).

Carbon filter :
The carbon filter removes, 99.9%, the unpleasant taste and smell of chlorine. This filter is NSF-approved by the National Sanitation Foundation (equivalent to a U/L or CSA approval for electrical appliances).

Why is our water filtration system important?

The main purpose of the softener filter is to retain the calcium found in the water. We usually recommend this filter to be changed every four months. Otherwise, limescale deposits act as insulation and lead the refrigeration components to work harder and with less efficiency, resulting in breakage. Limescale is also favourable to bacterial proliferation.

Here below are two pictures of a unit purchased in 2010. The client had refused the maintenance of his unit (cleaning and filters changing). After only two years, there are very obvious deposits of limescale at the base of the faucet and  the drinking water fountain bubbler.
